Program Details
The Early Childhood Program at Glen Rock Public Schools provides a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment for young learners, fostering the development of foundational skills through hands-on experiences and exploration. This program focuses on the whole child, promoting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth for school readiness.
The classrooms are staffed by full-time certified teachers in both early childhood and special education as well as classroom paraprofessionals. All staff are appointed by the Board of Education.
Glen Rock Public School District’s Early Childhood Program implements the Creative Curriculum to provide a developmentally appropriate framework for learning. This research-based curriculum emphasizes hands-on, child-centered activities that promote inquiry, problem-solving, and exploration. Activities are designed to engage children in learning through play, fostering a love of discovery.
Children will attend a variety of specials, including Music, Art, Physical Education, and the Media Center, which support creative expression, physical development, and early literacy skills. These specials encourage exploration in different areas, helping students build confidence and discover their interests.
Classrooms are integrated and structured to be inclusive and supportive of all learners, with integration of various student needs. The program adapts to each child's developmental stage, ensuring that every student receives personalized support and instruction in a collaborative environment.
In an effort to enrich the learning experience, our Early Childhood Program collaborates with the high school Early Childhood Development class. This partnership offers high school students the opportunity to engage with younger children, assisting in classroom activities, providing mentorship, and gaining practical experience in child development. High school students engage with a curriculum to learn about child psychology, age-appropriate pedagogy, and classroom management, which they can apply in assisting our Early Childhood Program teachers. It also enhances social interactions for both groups, fostering a sense of community.
